Course Summary

The CPCS (A17E) - Telescopic Handler Suspended Loads (Non-rough Terrain) course aims to provide high quality training and testing in the safe and effective use of plant and machinery to enable the candidate to attain the CPCS Red Operator Card. This course is for people with limited experience of operating a Telescopic Handler. It teaches you how to operate and maintain a Telescopic Handler - Suspended load safely across non-rough terrain.

Course Details

  • Name and explain principle components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Use of the operator’s handbook and go through relevant regulations and legislation
  • Preparing the machine for travel
  • Travelling the machine over different terrain including rough, undulating ground
  • Follow given signals and instructions when travelling and manoeuvring with and without loads
  • Determine the requirements for the lifting and transferring of suspended loads and establish and comply with given signals and instructions
  • Lift and remove various loads up to full extension and working height of the telehandler
  • Transfer and place loads accurately at given locations then place and remove loads from a vehicle
  • List different types of lifting accessories and attachments compatible with telescopic handlers and suspended loads
  • Explain the correct and incorrect methods for attaching suspended loads to the machine
  • Explain how stability is affected by travelling with a raised boom and a suspended load (both regular and irregular)
  • Maintain safe and tidy working areas
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting
